Theophylline
Indication
Preventing and treating symptoms and blockage of airway due to asthma or other lung diseases (eg, emphysema, bronchitis). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Apo-Theo LA is a xanthine derivative. It works by relaxing the muscle around the airways in the lungs, which allows them to widen and makes breathing easier. It also improves contraction of the diaphragm (the major breathing muscle) and decreases the response of the airways to irritants.
Instruction
Use Apo-Theo LA as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Try to take this medicine every day at evenly spaced times. If you have questions about the best time to take it, ask your pharmacist.
Some foods may change the effectiveness or increase the side effects of Apo-Theo LA. Talk to your doctor about how you should take Apo-Theo LA with regard to food. Do not suddenly change your diet or eating habits without first checking with your doctor.
Take Apo-Theo LA at evenly spaced times throughout the day. Taking Apo-Theo LA at the same time each day will help you remember to take it. Contact your doctor with any questions or concerns about the best way to take Apo-Theo LA.
If you miss a dose of Apo-Theo LA, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Drug interaction
Apo-Theo LA interact with the following drugs: carbamazepine; cimetidine; enoxacin; ephedrine or similar medications found in cold medicine or diet pills; erythromycin; fluvoxamine; propranolol; rifampin; St. John's wort; thiabendazole. Also note that interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. As usual it affects the effect of drugs, so consult with your doctor about how it interactions are being managed or should be managed.
