Indication
Aricept is used for treating dementia (eg, impairment of memory, judgment, and abstract thinking; changes in personality) in patients with Alzheimer disease. Aricept is a cholinesterase inhibitor. It works by increasing the amount of a certain substance (acetylcholine) in the brain, which may help reduce the symptoms of dementia in patients with Alzheimer disease.

Drug interaction
Inhibitors of cytochrome P450 (ketoconazole, quinidine, itraconazole, erythromycin, fluoxetine) increase, and its inducers (rifampin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, ethanol) reduce blood concentrations Aricept. The effect of Aricept can be unpredictably increased by cholinostimulators and weakened by choline inhibitors. Risk of adverse reactions increased when Aricept is used together with other drugs for general anesthesia and NSAIDs.
