Metformin
Indication
Metformin is used for treating type 2 diabetes. It is used along with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with
as directed by your doctor.

Take Glucophage by mouth with food.
Take
Glucophage on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it. Taking
Glucophage at the same time each day will help
other antidiabetic medicines. Metformin is a biguanide antidiabetic. It works by decreasing the amount of sugar that the liver produces and the intestines absorb. It also helps to make your body more sensitive to the insulin that you naturally produce.
Instruction

Use Glucophage you remember to take it.

Continue to take Glucophage even if you feel well. Do not miss any dose.

If you miss a dose of Glucophage, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Metformin.
Drug interaction
Cimetidine (Tagamet) increases blood levels of Glucophage affecting its metabolism. Glucophage is not compatible with alcohol. Concomitant administration with indirect anticoagulants and Cimetidine should be done with cautiousness. Glucophage enhances metabolism of Furosemide. Derivatives of sulfonylurea, insulin, acarbose, inhibitors of MAO, oxytetracycline, cyclophosphamide and salicylates increase the effects of Glucophage. Decrease of hypoglycemic effect of Glucophage is caused by co-administration with thyroid medicines, birth control pills and other hormones, Epinephrine, Glucagon, thiazide diuretics, nicotinic acid derivates.
