Metformin HCI
Indication
Type 2 DM when not adequately controlled by dietary management & exercise alone. Monotherapy or in combination w/ other oral antidiabetic agents or w/ insulin.
Instruction
Should be taken with food. Adult Monotherapy & combination w/ other oral antidiabetic agents Initially 1tab bd-tds daily. Adjust dose after 10-15 days according to blood glucose measurements. Max: 3 g daily. Combination w/ insulin Initially 1tab bd-tds daily, adjust insulin according to blood glucose measurements. Childn & adolescent Monotherapy & combination w/ insulin 500 mg or 850 mg once daily. Max: 2 g daily in 2-3 divided doses.
Drug interaction
Alcohol, intravascular iodinated contrast media, glucocorticoids, diuretics. β2-agonists, ACE inhibitors
