Quetiapine fumarate
Indication
Seroquel is used for treating schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic. It affects certain receptors in the brain. This may help to improve symptoms associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food.
Extended-Release: Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take w/o food or w/ a light meal. Swallow whole do not chew/crush.
Drug interaction
May enhance central effects of other CNS depressants. Enhanced effects of antihypertensive drugs. May enhance actions of drugs that prolong QT interval or cause electrolyte imbalance. Increased extrapyramidal effects, somnolence and wt gain w/ concomitant lithium. May antagonise actions of dopaminergics (e.g. levodopa). May decrease plasma levels w/ CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine). May increase plasma levels w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, erythromycin). Increased clearance w/ thioridazine.
