Pravastatin Na
Indication
Component of multiple risk factor intervention in those individuals at increased risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia. Adjunct to diet to reduce the risk of fatal, nonfatal & recurrent MI, need for myocardial revascularization procedures & to improve survival by reducing CV deaths. Reduces the risk of stroke & transient ischemic attacks (TIAs). Slows the progressive course of atherosclerosis & reduce the incidence of clinical CV events. Reduction of elevated total-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients w/ primary hypercholesterolemia.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: Take in the evening.
Drug interaction
Fibrates may cause severe myositis & myoglobinuria. Colestyramine/colestipol decreases pravastin bioavailability. Increased pravastatin systemic exposure w/ ciclosporin. Erythromycin or clarithromycin.
