Per 5 mL oral susp Co-trimoxazole: Sulfamethoxazole 200 mg, trimethoprim 40 mg
Indication
Upper & lower urinary tract, resp & genital tract, GIT, skin & wound infections. Bacterial infections caused by sensitive organisms, fungal skin infections. South American blastomycosis.
Instruction
Oral susp Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL every 12 hr, 6 mth-5 yr 5 mL every 12 hr, 6 wk-5 mth 2.5 mL every 12 hr.
Drug interaction
Increased thrombocytopenia w/ diuretics. Megaloblastic anaemia w/ pyrimethamine. Potentiated activity of oral hypoglycaemic or anticoagulants. Displacement of warfarin. Inhibited hepatic metabolism of phenytoin. Shortened plasma t½ w/ rifampicin.
