Diclofenac Na
Indication
Acute, severe pain caused by inflammatory & degenerative forms of rheumatism; RA, ankylosing spondylitis, OA & spondyloarthritis. Painful syndromes of vertebral column. Non-articular rheumatism, acute attacks of gout, renal & biliary colic, post-traumatic & post-op pain, inflammation & swelling.
Instruction
Adults: The usual dosage is 75 mg (3 ml) daily, administered by deep intragluteal injection into the upper outer quadrant. In severe cases, (e.g., colic) the dosage may be raised exceptionally to 2 injections (150 mg) daily, allowing an interval of several hours to elapse between injections (a different site of injection should be used e.g. the other buttock). Alternatively, 1 injection (75 mg) can be combined with other dosage forms of diclofenac up to a maximum daily dosage of 150 mg.
The injections should be given for 2 days only, after which treatment should be continued with diclofenac coated tablets or suppositories, if necessary.
Children: Zobid Injections are not suitable for children.
Drug interaction
Increased risk of renal adverse effects w/ acetaminophen, other nephrotoxic medications including gold compd. Increased risk of GI effects w/ alcohol, corticosteroids, glucocorticoid or corticotropin, K supplements. Inhibited platelet aggregation w/ coumarin- or indandione-derivative anticoagulants, heparin, thrombolytics; cefamandole, cefoperazone, cefotetan, picamycin or valproic acid; other platelet aggregation inhibitors. Increased &/or decreased effect of oral antidiabetic agents or insulin. Reduced or reversed antihypertensive effects of diuretics & antihypertensives. Increased risk of GI toxicity w/ aspirin or other NSAIDs; colchicine; sulfinpyrazone. Increased leukopenic &/or thrombocytopenic effects of bone marrow depressants. Increased plasma conc of cyclosporine. Increased serum digoxin, lithium, methotrexate conc. Additive photosensitising effects w/ other photosensitising medications. Increased serum conc by probenecid.
