Cefuroxime axetil
Indication
Upper & lower resp tract, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections, gonorrhoea, acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis & cervicitis.
Instruction
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals. Adult Most infections, mild to moderate lower resp tract infections eg, bronchitis, pyelonephritis 250 mg bd. More severe lower resp tract infections or suspected pneumonia 500 mg bd. UTI 125 mg bd. Pyelonephritis 250 mg bd. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1 g as a single dose. Childn 125 mg bd. Max: 250 mg daily. Otitis media Childn >2 yr 250 mg bd or 15 mg/kg bd. Max: 500 mg daily, <2 yr 125 mg bd or 10 mg/kg bd. Max: 250 mg daily.
Drug interaction
Increased serum t½ w/ probenecid. Lowered bioavailabity & tend to cancel the effects of postprandial absorption w/ drugs that reduce gastric acidity.
