Cephalexin monohydrate
Indication
Resp tract, ENT, O&G, skin & soft tissue, bone & dental infections, UTI. Prophylaxis of recurrent UTI. Gonorrhoea (when penicillin is unsuitable). Alternative to penicillin in the prophylaxis of heart patients undergoing dental treatment.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.Adult & childn >12 yr 500 mg tds. UTI 1 g bd. Severe or deep-seated infections 1 g tds or 1.5 g qds. Childn 25-60 mg/kg daily
Drug interaction
Oestrogen-containing OCs, probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs.
