Atorvastatin
Indication
To reduce the risk of heart diseases such as heart attack, chest pain and stroke and to reduce the high levels of cholesterol in the blood.
Instruction
The typical dose of Eturion is 10 to 80 mg once daily. The usual dose for children is 10 mg/day. The maximum adult dose of Eturion is 80 mg once daily in a day. Eturion is commonly used at the same time every day. This medicine is to be used for longer periods of time. You should continue to use this medicine as directed by the doctor even if you feel well.
Drug interaction
Rifampin may lead to decreased levels of Eturion in the blood. Use of Eturion may increase the risk of muscle weakness and damage to skeletal muscles in patients using gemfibrozil. The absorption of Eturion gets increased when used with cyclosporine. When Eturion is used in combination with fusidic acid, may increase the risk of muscle pain and damage of skeletal muscles (rhabdomyolysis). Use of Eturion with ezetimibe may cause skeletal muscle related problems. Proper monitoring is required while using both medicines in combination.When colestipol is used along with Eturion, the levels of Eturion and its active metabolites gets decreased.The absorption of Eturion gets increased when used simultaneously with the combination of protease inhibitors such as tipranavir and ritonavir. Dose monitoring of Eturion should not be required more than 40 mg in patients taking the hepatitis C protease inhibitors such as nelfinavir. When multiple doses of Eturion and digoxin are used together, the level of digoxin gets increased in the blood. The patients using this medicine should be monitored carefully. When Eturion is used with oral contraceptives, the levels of norethindrone and ethinyloestradiol gets increased in the blood. Take necessary precautions while selecting an oral contraceptive for a woman taking Eturion. The use of Eturion 80 mg with 500 mg of clarithromycin twice daily, may increase the level of Eturion in the blood. Precaution should be taken while using Eturion more than 20 mg. Use of Eturion and colchicine may cause muscle problems such as damage to skeletal muscles (rhabdomyolysis). Take necessary precautions while using both medicines in combination. Use of 40 mg Eturion and 200 mg itraconazole, may increase the level of Eturion in the blood. When the dose of Eturion exceeds 20 mg, the patients should take necessary precautions while using itraconazole. The combined use of Eturion and niacin may increase the risk of skeletal muscle defects. The dose of Eturion should be lower when using in combination with niacin (vitamin B3).
