Ferrous fumarate
Indication
Iron-deficiency anaemia.
Instruction
Should be taken on an empty stomach. Best taken on an empty stomach. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Drug interaction
Reduces the absorption of penicillamine, fluoroquinolones, levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone, bisphosphonates, mycophenolate, levothyroxine, Zn and tetracycline. Absorption is reduced by Ca, Mg and other mineral supplements, bicarbonates, carbonates, trientine, Zn and tetracycline. Impaired absorption w/ antacids and cholestyramine. Increased absorption w/ ascorbic or citric acid. Chloramphenicol delays plasma Fe clearance, incorporation of Fe into red blood cells and interferes w/ erythropoiesis. Reduces the hypotensive effect of methyldopa.
