Amoxycillin trihydrate
Indication
Bronchitis, biliary tract infections, uncomplicated endocervical & urethral gonorrhoea, acute otitis media, mouth infections, pharyngitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, UTI, gastroenteritis, Lyme disease, typhoid fever. Possible alternative to erythromycin for chlamydial infections in pregnant women. Prophylaxis for spleen disorders & bacterial endocarditis; adjunct for H pylori-associated peptic ulcer.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Drug interaction
Reduced effectiveness of OCs. Increased frequency of skin rashes w/ allopurinol. Decreased renal tubular secretion by probenecid. Decreased clearance of methotrexate. ACE inhibitors, K-sparing diuretics, K supplements.
