Insulin glargine
Indication
Once daily SC administration for DM in adults, adolescents & childn ≥2 yr.
Instruction
Individualised dosage. May be administered once daily at any time of the day, however, at the same time everyday
Drug interaction
Effects enhanced by oral antidiabetics, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, MAOIs, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates, sulfonamide antibiotics. Effects reduced by corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, INH, oestrogens & progestogens, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin, sympathomimetics, thyroid hormones, atypical antipsychotics, PIs. β-blockers, clonidine, lithium salts or alcohol may either potentiate or weaken the effects of insulin. Pentamidine may cause hypoglycaemia, sometimes followed by hyperglycaemia. Signs of adrenergic counterregulation may be reduced or offset by sympatholytics.
