The pilot cylinder provides nitrogen gas at the pressure of 550 psi. The solenoid valve opens upon the supply of 24VDC, allowing gas to flow from the cylinder onto the manual / pneumatic actuator fitted to the pilot valve. The pilot valve then opens, releasing gas onto the C02 pneumatic valve. The pilot cylinder may also be operated manually, either locally at the pilot cylinder or remotely by pullbox.
