Genever – or genievre, a distillate of malted grain infused with juniper and other botanicals – is considered to be the oldest style of gin. The difference comes from the regulations which makes that Genever must be made with at least 50% of mal wine (always made from grains like rye, malted barley and corn), while Gin can be distilled from any raw material – making Genever actually closer to whiskey than regular gin.
’21’ stands for ’21st Century Recipe’, a new approach of from the classic ‘Original’ genever. Subtle malty and floral notes with a silky-smooth finish, the Bols Genever 21 is a true modern Genever. Born from a creative collaboration between Lucas Bols and Dutch hospitality icon Casper Reinders, this genever is presented in a special bottle which carries the design of artist Vincent van de Waal.
Bols Genever 21 is best enjoyed neat and chilled, or in a traditional Dutch Kopstootje with a beer on the side. For those who prefer a more subtle malty flavour, try mixing it in cocktails like the Adam’s Apple or Vanilla Crush. It will not disappoint!
