Starting January 1, 2025, new smoking bans in Malaysia will take effect under the Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852). The newly restricted areas include laundromats and workplace buildings, both government and private. This expansion brings the total number of smoke-free zones to 28, aimed at promoting public health and creating cleaner environments.
Key prohibited areas now include hospitals, clinics, public restrooms, air-conditioned eateries, government buildings, and educational institutions. Additionally, there are restrictions on the sale and display of unhealthy products, which cannot be openly displayed or sold online, in vending machines, or in temporary marketplaces like night bazaars
