This tungsten carbide tipped scribe from RS PRO is designed for making marks on materials, typically for later cutting or joining. Thanks to the tip's tungsten carbide composition, the point is much more hardwearing than a normal high-speed steel scribe, meaning that it can be used with very hard or abrasive materials without wearing out quickly. This makes it suitable for marking stainless steel, glass or ceramic – and of course, it can be used on softer materials as well. It's made with a pocket clip for ease of use and with a hexagonal shaft for easy grip, or to allow it to be used with a holder.
This scribe would typically be used in an engineering shop to allow measured lines to be clearly marked on materials or scribed along straight edges. These lines could then be used for cutting or folding.
