Indications

• Respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia)
• Skin and soft tissue infections, including cellulitis
• Ear infections (e.g., otitis media)
• Helicobacter pylori–associated peptic ulcer disease, when combined with other agents as part of eradication therapy

Instructions for Use

• Adults (and children ≥ /12 years): 500 /mg every 12 hours, typically for 7–14 days, depending on infection severity. For H. pylori eradication, clarithromycin is used at 500 /mg twice daily in combination regimens for 7–14 days
• In renal impairment (CrCl < /30 /ml/min): dosage reduction may be needed (e.g., to 250 /mg once or twice daily) under medical guidance

• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it.
• It can be taken with or without food, at a consistent time each day for best effect

• If a dose is missed: take it as soon as remembered, unless it’s nearly time for the next dose—do not double up.
• Overdose symptoms may include gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea); seek medical advice if needed

• Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed after consulting with a physician; clarithromycin passes into breast milk
• Liver or kidney impairment: Use with caution; dosage adjustment may be needed
• Drug interactions & contraindications:
  • Contraindicated with cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, terfenadine, domperidone.
  • Interacts with CYP3A4-metabolized drugs (e.g. statins, digoxin, sildenafil, ritonavir), anticoagulants, and others—monitor or avoid combinations
