Strainers are important component of piping systems to protect equipment from potential damage due to dirt or any other particles that may be carried in the process fluid. During system start-up and flushing, strainers may be placed upstream of pumps to protect them from construction debris that might have been left in the pipe. Below are typically type of strainer that will be installed during start-up. Permanent strainer such as Y-strainer, basket strainer or Tee strainer will be installed permanently in upstream of control valves, instruments or traps to protect them from corrosive products that may become dislodged and flow throughout the pipeline.
