IMTEC-Phosphatidylethanolamine-Antibodies Screen is an indirect solidphase enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) for the quantitative measurement of IgG, IgM and IgA class autoantibodies against phosphatidylethanolamine/beta-2-glycoprotein I in human serum. The assay is intended for in vitro diagnostic use only as an aid in the diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS).
Anti-phosphatidylethanolamine antibodies (aPE) are important for the diagnosis of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) because of their isolated occurrence in 5-10% of anti-cardiolipin antibody negative APS patients. All aPE-isotypes can occur, but IgA is most common. 20% of SLE patients with secondary APS show aPE too.
