Quetiapine

Indication

Apo-Quetiapine is used for treating schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Apo-Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic. It affects certain receptors in the brain. This may help to improve symptoms associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Instruction

Use Apo-Quetiapine as directed by your doctor.

• Take Apo-Quetiapine by mouth with or without food.
• Continue to take Apo-Quetiapine even if you feel well. Do not miss any dose.
• Do not suddenly stop taking Apo-Quetiapine without first talking with your doctor. You may have an increased risk of side effects. If you need to stop Apo-Quetiapine or add a new medicine, your doctor will gradually lower your dose.
• If you miss a dose of Apo-Quetiapine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Drug interaction

Phenytoin (Dilantin) and thioridazine (Mellaril) decrease absorption of Apo-Quetiapine in intestines and decrease its effects. Apo-Quetiapine interacts with narcotic pain relievers, medications for hypertension interact with and their activities add: oxycodone and acetaminophen (Percocet, Roxicet, Tylox, Endocet), barbiturates, alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), ethanol, prazosin (Minipress) and terazosin (Hytrin). Toxicity of Quetiapine may increase if it is co-administered with the drugs able to influence work of cytochrome P450 which is responsible for metabolism of Apo-Quetiapine, these drugs are: ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fluconazole (Diflucan), erythromycin, clarithromycin (Biaxin), nefazodone (Serzone), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, Verelan), diltiazem (Cardizem, Tiazac, Dilacor).
