Since the sensor captures changes in magnetic force rather than sound waves, it is possible to measure steel wires, steel belts, etc. Even in environments where rubber belts are susceptible to noise (background noise) and cannot normally be measured with a microphone, measurements can be made by applying a thin magnetic material (to the extent that it does not affect the natural frequency).
