Janumet XR contains two active ingredients:
- Sitagliptin Phosphate (50mg): A DPP-4 inhibitor that helps regulate insulin levels after meals.
- Metformin Hydrochloride (500mg): A biguanide that decreases glucose production in the liver and absorption in the intestines.
Indication:
Janumet XR is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
Instructions:
- Dosage: Take Janumet XR once daily with a meal. The recommended starting dose for patients not currently treated with metformin is 100 mg sitagliptin and 1000 mg metformin HCl once daily. For patients already on metformin, the dose should be adjusted accordingly.
- Administration: Take the tablet whole with a meal to reduce the chance of an upset stomach. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
- Monitoring: Regularly check your blood sugar levels as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will also monitor your kidney function before and during treatment.
- Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have any kidney, liver, or heart problems. Avoid using Janumet XR if you have severe kidney disease, diabetic ketoacidosis, or are allergic to any of its components.
