No additional sealant should be applied during installation. Otherwise, it will forms a bead on the inner section of the casting, this is removed with coolant flow and becomes wrapped around the rotating pump shaft between the housing and the impeller. Eventually will causes the component failure.

An improper or excessive use of sealant often leads to premature leakage. Thus, for example, excess sealant which has penetrated into the cooling area portion detached and deposited in the mechanical seal. On the other hand, it may come at the assembly area (engine) to a leakage due to an uneven applied sealant compound.

Never start the engine without coolant! The dry running destroy the mechanical seal.
