HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE GROT
The tips of the YATO soldering irons are covered with a material that reduces the oxidation of the tip. Prolonged heating and mechanical damage gradually degrade the protective layer, then the tip quickly oxidizes, which results in problems with melting the solder. Tin, instead of melting and sticking to the tip, balls up and falls off. A proven way to take care of the tip is to tin it. When heating up the soldering iron for the first time, put a little tin on the tip of the soldering iron and remove its excess, e.g. with brass shavings. The resulting layer of tin protects against oxidation. It is a good practice to tin the tip each time after finishing work.
CAUTION
Soldering irons powered directly from the mains socket should have a plug with a grounding pin and should be powered from a socket with an earth connection. Failure to ground the metal housing of the heater is a risk of electric shock, which in the best case will end in burns.
