Flame Arrester approved to DIN EN ISO 16852 as inline deflagration flame arrester and for Endurance Burning
Deflagration = Explosion propagating at subsonic velocity
Endurance Burning = Stabilized burning for unlimited time.
Inline deflagration flame arresters are fitted with two pipe connections, one on each side of the flame arrester. They are designed to prevent transmission of a deflagration (explosion propagating at subsonic velocity) and also to stop flame propagation in case of endurance burning.
Inline Deflagration Flame Arrester – Endurance Burning : Explanation
Deflagration = Explosion propagating at subsonic velocity
Endurance Burning = Stabilized burning for unlimited time.
If explosive gas mixture in a pipe is ignited, then flame will propagate in direction to the e.g. gas tank. If a flame travels through a pipe, the flame speed increases with the length of the pipe. Up to a certain pipe length / pipe inside diameter ratio, the flame propagates at subsonic speed. If the flame propagate at subsonic speed then an inline deflagration flame arrester can stop the flame.
Inline deflagration flame arrester, approved for endurance burning for unlimited time prevents flame propagation to protected side after the gas flow has been switched off, even though the flame arrester is heated.
Inline deflagration flame arresters has a lower pressure drop than detonation flame arresters.
However, consider when installing inline deflagration flame arrester that the distance from ignition source to inline deflagration flame arrester is limited.
Inline deflagration flame arrester tested and authorized for endurance burning are also approved as deflagration flame arrester.
