Koryoku Kiwi, an original variety of kiwi fruit from Kagawa Prefecture, was registered in 1987. Compared to the “Hayward” variety of kiwi that is commonly found throughout Japan, Koryoku Kiwi has a higher sugar content, and is distinguished by the brilliant dark green color of its flesh. The name “Koryoku” makes reference to both the beautiful green of Kagawa’s rich natural landscape, and the green color of the kiwi fruit. Another feature of Koryoku Kiwi is that it has low astringency. You can fully enjoy the fresh and juicy flavor of this intensely sweet kiwi. Kiwi with a sugar content of 14.5 or more are sold on the market as Sanuki San Fruits. Kiwi that have received the highest rating for sugar content are sold under the special brand name, “Sweet 16”.
