Description
Fibre Cement Board (Cemboard) is a sheet made of cement and fibers containing cellulose. It can be used in exteriors or interiors and can be attached to both wood and steel studs.
Cemboard is normally used to serve as backing for tile. As tile is typically used in areas prone to water exposure, it is vital to have a backing that will not develop mold and mildew or disintegrate after prolonged exposure to moisture. Therefore, cemboard is superior to paper-covered gypsum at this task because of its resistance to water.
Cement board may be applied to an existing wood floor to make way for new tile, on top of cabinets to create counter tops, or installed horizontally on a wall to create a back splash or provide a substrate for the application of plasters such as stucco.
