Azathioprine
Indication
Immunosuppressant antimetabolite, organ transplants, autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, severe RA, SLE, chronic refractory idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, pemphigus vulgaris, polyarteritis nodosa, dermatomyositis & polymyositis.
Instruction
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Administer at least 1 hour before or 3 hour after food/milk.
Drug interaction
Metabolism inhibited by allopurinol/oxipurinol/thiopurinol. Diminished response to killed vaccine w/ corticosteroids. Severe myelosuppression w/ ribavirin. Serious haematological abnormalities w/ cytostatic/myelosuppressive agents. Inhibition of TPMT enzyme w/ aminosalicylates. Methotrexate increased 6-mercaptopurine AUC. Inhibition of warfarin & adenocoumarol anticoagulant effects
