Tenuta Licinia sits at the foothills of the Tuscan Apennines near the beautiful medieval village of Lucignano on the border between the province of Siena and Arezzo. The property consists of 60 hectares of woods, 5.5 ha. of vines, and 3 Ha of Olive groves. Lucignano has an ancient history with wine beginningat the time of the Etruscans but viticulture died out during the social upheavals of the 20th century.
The plot on which the vines were replanted in 2007 had been famous in the local region for producing exceptional wines Tenuta Licinia produces small quantities of wines that express the interaction between the grapes and the subsoil. The vines were only planted on a small area where the subsoil is galestro, the most highly rated Tuscan subsoil type. Tenuta Licinia is an organic certified winery and has begun, since 2019, to implement some biodynamic principles in the vineyard.
TASTING NOTES
Colour: Bright ruby-red with garnet reflections.
Aroma: Floral bouquet with crushed rose petals and black cherry, followed by rich aromas of plum, blackberry, and subtle forest floor earthiness.
Palate: The wine is full-bodied and textured, with fleshy dark cherry and plum flavors complemented by refreshing bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit and a distinct mineral lift—slate and saline notes reflecting its schist rich terroir . Firm, fine-grained tannins give structure while maintaining balance, leading into a long, luminous finish lingering with dried herbs, tobacco tinged tobacco, and mellow, integrated spice.
