Risperidone
Indication
Schizophrenia including 1st episode psychoses, acute schizophrenic exacerbations, chronic schizophrenia & other psychotic conditions, in which +ve symptoms &/or -ve symptoms are prominent; alleviates affective symptoms associated w/ schizophrenia; maintenance of clinical improvement during continuation therapy in patients who have shown an inital treatment response.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food.
Drug interaction
Use w/ other centrally acting drugs (caution). May antagonize the effect of levodopa & other dopamine-agonists. Antihypertensive treatment. Carbamazepine & other hepatic enzyme inducers. Phenothiazines, TCAs & some β-blockers. Fluoxetine & paroxetine.
