Aciclovir
Indication
Herpes simplex & varicella zoster infection. Prophylaxis of herpes simplex infection in immunocompromised patients. Tab/susp Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex infection in immunocompromised patients. Inj Herpes simplex in neonates.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. May be dispersed in at least 50 mL of water or swallowed whole w/ a little water. Ensure adequate hydration especially for patients on high doses.
Drug interaction
Increased AUC & reduced renal clearance by probenecid & cimetidine. Increased plasma AUC of mycophenolate mofetil.
