Metronidazole
Indication
Amoebiasis, Giardiasis; Amoebic liver abscess; Anaerobic Bacterial Infections.
Instruction
Childn 35-50 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses for 10 days.
Drug interaction
Potentiated effect of warfarin & other oral coumarin anticoagulants. Reduced plasma levels w/ drugs inducing microsomal enzymes eg, phenytoin or phenobarb. Impaired clearance of phenytoin. Prolonged t½ & decreased plasma clearance w/ cimetidine. Lithium toxicity. Psychotic reactions w/ disulfiram & alcohol.
