Myanmar Culture

Reed International School had the honour of inviting two Myanmar nationals, Ms Alberta and Ms Marie to present the talk. Both Ms Alberta and Ms Marie are teachers from Myanmar who are currently in Malaysia to pursue their Masters in Teaching and Learning at HELP University.
The session began with both speakers taking turns to explain the historical, geographical and cultural background of Myanmar. Their talk was made interesting with some accompanying slides filled with relevant images and videos.
The talk was followed by a demonstration of making ‘laphet-thoke’, or Myanmar tealeaf salad. Laphet-thoke is a national dish of Myanmar which can be consumed as a snack or as a side dish during meals. Reed students had the opportunity to try their hands at making laphet-thoke under the guidance of Ms Marie and Ms Alberta.
The talk ended with the students trying out some of the Myanmar costumes brought by our speakers. Reed students took turns trying on different costumes of the Chin and Karen tribes. It was truly an amazing afternoon getting to know more about Myanmar.
