JB-S’pore RTS Link project reports steady progress, nears 80% completion

The JB-S’pore RTS Link project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at enhancing connectivity between Johor Bahru and Singapore. As of May 31, 2024, the project has reached 77.61% completion. Here are some key highlights:

  • The Maintenance Depot, a crucial part of the railway infrastructure in Wadi Hana, Johor Bahru, is 82.14% ready and is expected to be set for system installation by the end of the year 
  • The Bukit Chagar Station platform is progressing well, with current progress at 71.16% following the completion of U-shell beams above the KTMB tracks 
  • The construction of the station floors is currently underway, with all pier columns along Jalan Tun Abdul Razak and Jalan Ismail Sultan already installed.
  • More than half of the guideway spans connecting the pier columns along the alignment have been completed, bringing the progress to 65%1.
  • The marine section’s construction includes a navigation channel between designated piers, measuring 75m wide and 25m high, to allow boats and barges to pass through. This section is 74.76% complete and anticipated to be fully completed by the end of November 20241.

The RTS Link will be a 4km light rail transit shuttle service between Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North station in Singapore, with a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. It’s expected to alleviate congestion at the Johor-Singapore Causeway, which is currently one of the world’s busiest border crossings
