Description
A High-Performance Pickling Spray For Challenging Applications
Avesta Pickling Spray 204 has been designed for robust applications, providing an effective spray pickling solution for larger stainless steel surfaces.
Standard applications
This pickling spray rejuvenates stainless steel surfaces that have suffered damage during fabrication operations like welding, forming, cutting, and blasting. It efficiently eliminates weld oxides, the underlying chromium-depleted layer, and other defects that can lead to local corrosion. Avesta Pickling Spray 204 is specifically formulated for more demanding pickling tasks, including heavy hot rolled plates and high-alloyed steels like 904. For typical applications, we recommend using our low-fuming Avesta RedOne Pickling Spray 240 for enhanced safety. In highly challenging situations, such as with Duplex grades, we recommend employing our Avesta Duplex Pickling Spray 250.
Features
The transparent spray gel possesses a thixotropic consistency, ensuring strong adhesion to surfaces and facilitating application, even in challenging positions. However, it’s important to note that the process is sensitive to intense sunlight and high temperatures, which can result in the spray drying onto the surface, making removal difficult. For more delicate applications, we recommend utilizing Avesta RedOne Spray 240, as it resists drying.
Packaging
Avesta Pickling Spray 204 is supplied in 20kg, 30kg, and 220kg polyethylene containers, as well as 1200kg IBC polyethylene containers. Package sizes may vary depending on the market, and all packaging materials comply with UN regulations for hazardous goods.
Storage
For proper storage, store Avesta Pickling Spray 204 indoors at room temperature. Ensure that containers are securely closed, positioned upright, and kept inaccessible to unauthorized individuals. The product is perishable and should not be stored for longer than necessary. If the spray undergoes decomposition during storage, stir it before use. It has a maximum shelf life of two years when stored at room temperature. Avoid exposure to higher temperatures (>35°C) to prevent damage and a reduction in shelf life.
Passivation
To further enhance results, we recommend the application of passivation after pickling, utilizing Avesta FinishOne Passivator 630, which offers a safer, acid-free passivation method.
Waste treatment
The wastewater produced during pickling contains acids and should be treated with Avesta Neutraliser 502 or slaked lime to achieve a pH value of 7-10 before disposal. Heavy metals from stainless steel will precipitate as a sludge, which should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Empty containers (HDPE) must be cleaned and can then be recycled in line with local regulations.
