James Findlater established Mortlach in 1823 and was the first legal distillery in Dufftown. Mortlach Distillery is a distiller of Speyside single malt Scotch whisky in Dufftown, Moray, Scotland. It was also the only distillery in Dufftown until Glenfiddich was founded in 1887.
Mortlach has been described by whisky connoisseurs as “The Beast of Dufftown”, for its rich and powerful flavours, produced in an astonishingly complicated and unique distillation process whom connoisseurs have attempted to explain as ‘2.81 Distilled’. The whisky is a key component in several Johnnie Walker bottlings, while Diageo also markets four of Mortlach’s single malts.
Mortlach 12 Years, The Wee Witchie is a Speyside single malt released by Diageo. Wee Witchie is the name of a tiny still that distils a portion of this whisky. It is double matured in American ex-bourbon and European ex-sherry casks and bottled at 43.4% ABV. Mortlach’s exceptional flavour bridges the gap between bold flavours without big smoke.
