Vertrel™ MCA specialty fluid is a proprietary azeotrope of Vertrel™ XF and trans-1,2 dichloroethylene. It is ideal for use in a vapor degreaser. Its enhanced solvency makes it very effective for precision and specialty cleaning jobs, especially with difficult soils.
Applications
Vertrel™ MCA is widely used for the following applications:
Compatibility and Soils
Vertrel™ MCA specialty fluid is compatible with most plastics and elastomers and can be used to clean a wide variety of soils including cutting oils, gear oils, heavy greases, hydraulic oils, stamping oils, vacuum oils, waxes, and mineral oils. Environmental Properties
Vertrel™ has zero ozone-depletion potential. It is used extensively to replace CFC-113, methyl chloroform, hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), and perfluorocarbons (PFCs) in several applications.
Vertrel™ MCA specialty fluid has been accepted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances. Vertrel™ MCA is not a hazardous air pollutant (HAP) and is therefore not subject to NESHAP regulations. Vertrel™ MCA is not included in the SARA Title III Section 313 list of toxic chemicals, and is not subject to SARA Title III (EPCRA) reporting requirements.
The components of Vertrel™ MCA are listed in the TSCA inventory. One component, HFC-43-10mee, is subject to the Significant New Use Rule (SNUR) and should be used only in the applications indicated in the Vertrel™ MCA Safety Data Sheet regulatory section.
Vertrel™ MCA is listed in ASTM G93, "Standard Practice for Cleaning Methods and Cleanliness Levels for Material and Equipment Used in Oxygen-Enriched Environments." It evaporates quickly at room temperature making it easy to remove from narrow pipe, valves, and heat exchangers. It is excellent for "on the job" field use. In many instances, Vertrel™ MCA will significantly increase cleaning process productivity when compared with aqueous cleaners. Vertrel™ MCA is compatible with commonly used metallic and nonmetallic materials.
Flammability and Toxicity
Vertrel™ MCA specialty fluid exhibits no closed-cup or open-cup flash point, and is not classified as a flammable liquid by NFPA or DOT. In addition, the product has no vapor flammability limits in air. Vertrel™ MCA is listed by the Compressed Gas Association, Inc (CGA) in the Directory of Cleaning Agents for Oxygen Service, and has passed the LOX impact tests (NHB 8060.1 and NF EN 1797). It is approved by major gas producers and aerospace manufacturers for use in oxygen systems. It is recommended for cleaning heavy soils and greases.
Flash point data and limits of flammability in air provide the user with additional information that should be used as elements of a fire risk assessment and to determine guidelines for safe handling of volatile chemicals. Users should ensure compliance with NFPA standards and local fire codes.
Acute toxicity studies show that Vertrel™ MCA has low toxicity. It could pose a slight skin and eye irritant and has low inhalation toxicity. For details of exposure limits please refer to the Vertrel™ MCA brochure.
