PDRM Welcomes Proton S70 as New Patrol Car, Replacing Waja, Inspira, and Preve

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has officially added the Proton S70 to its patrol car fleet, with the handover ceremony taking place at Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant. Since the Proton Preve was quietly discontinued in 2020, the brand no longer had a C-segment sedan in its lineup. To meet their operational needs, PDRM turned to Honda.

Currently, PDRM's fleet includes two generations of the Honda Civic: the FC variant, powered by a 1.8L naturally aspirated engine producing 141hp and 174Nm of torque (as stated by Honda), and the FE variant, which features a 1.5L turbocharged engine delivering 180hp and 240Nm of torque. With the launch of the Proton S70, this new C-segment sedan will now serve alongside the existing Proton X70 SUV patrol vehicles.

The Proton S70 is offered in four trimsExecutive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X—all equipped with a 1.5L three-cylinder engine generating 150hp and 226Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. According to Proton, the S70 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around 9 seconds and has a fuel consumption rating of 9.56L/100km. So, the next time you see a white S70 on the road, take a closer look, it might just be a Police patrol car!
