Description
Genever – or genievre, a distillate of malted grain infused with juniper and other botanicals – is considered to be the oldest style of gin. The difference comes from the regulations which makes that Genever must be made with at least 50% of mal wine (always made from grains like rye, malted barley and corn), while Gin can be distilled from any raw material – making Genever actually closer to whiskey than regular gin.
The Bols Barrel Aged Genever has a rich and rounded malty flavor, with hints of juniper and oak and a complex yet fruity finish. Produced in limited quantities, this genever is a true testament to the craftsmanship of our master distillers. Bols Barrel Aged Genever owes its beautiful golden colour and complex sweet flavor to the extensive 18-month ageing period on oak casks from the French Limousin region.
A genever this special deserves to be shown off in cocktails like the Very Old Fashioned, allowing the soul of the spirit to really shine through. Looking for a true taste of Amsterdam? Enjoy it straight in combination with a glass of beer for what the Dutch like to call a ‘Kopstootje’.
