This photoelectric sensor from RS PRO can detect and measure objects simply by bouncing a beam of light off them. It has a polarising filter that can reliably detect shiny surfaces and a red light to help with alignment. Background blanking increases the sensor's accuracy. It also has a broad detection range, from 5 mm right up to 7 m.
The retroreflective barrel sensor is housed in a nickel-plated brass body to resist corrosion. It's IP67 rated, which means it will stay dry even when submerged under a metre of water for a full 30 minutes. The sensor is supplied complete with a reflector and a mounting bracket.
