Omeprazole

Indication

Hovid Omezole is used for treating heartburn or irritation of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It may also be used for short-term treatment of ulcers of the stomach or small intestines. It may also be used with certain antibiotics to treat ulcers of the small intestines and to help prevent them from coming back. It may also be used to treat conditions that cause your body to make too much stomach acid (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Hovid Omezole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

Instruction

Use Hovid Omezole as directed by your doctor.

• Take Hovid Omezole by mouth on an empty stomach before eating.
• Swallow Hovid Omezole whole. Do not break, crush, chew, or open Hovid Omezole before swallowing.
• If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, add 1 tablespoon of applesauce to an empty bowl. Open the capsule and empty the pellets onto the applesauce. Mix the pellets with the applesauce and swallow the mixture at once, followed by a glass of cool water. The applesauce used should not be hot and should be soft enough to be swallowed without chewing. Do not chew or crush the pellets. Do not store the mixture for further use.
• You may take antacids while you are using Hovid Omezole if you are directed to do so by your doctor.
• If you also take an imidazole antifungal (eg, ketoconazole), take it at least 2 hours before taking Hovid Omezole.
• If you also take sucralfate, take Hovid Omezole at least 30 minutes before taking sucralfate.
• Continue to take Hovid Omezole even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
• If you miss a dose of Hovid Omezole, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Drug interaction

Hovid Omezole can decreases elimination of diazepam, warfarin and phenytoin. These are medications metabolized in the liver by oxidation. Drugs which are metabolized with help of cytochrome P-450 system (e.g. cyclosporine, disulfiram, benzodiazepines) may also interact with Hovid Omezole because it is metabolized the same way. Clarithromycin is also metabolized by cytochrome P450, concomitant administration of clarithromycin with Hovid Omezole may result in increases in plasma levels of Hovid Omezole. Concomitant use of Hovid Omezole and erithromycin may result in increases in plasma levels of erithromycin, and 14-hydroxy-clarithromycin. You may need additional monitoring of your condition if you are taking ampicillin, cilostazol, cyclosporine, diazepam, digoxin, disulfiram, iron, itraconazole, ketoconazole, moclobemide, phenytoin, sucralfate, vorconizole, or warfarin. This medicine may be combined with antacids if they were prescribed by your doctor. Potent acid-reducing drugs such as Hovid Omezole diminish the effectiveness of sucralfate, and other medicaitons such as the antifungals ketoconazole and itraconazole. If instructed to take any of these medicines while taking Hovid Omezole, consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the proper timing of each dose, usually Hovid Omezole is taken 30 minutes before sucralfate.
