Per 5 mL Carbocisteine 100 mg, promethazine HCl 2.5 mg
Indication
Symptomatic treament of troublesome, nonproductive cough, particularly occuring at night.
Instruction
Adults: 3-4 tablespoonful daily, in divided doses. Children: 12-15 years: 6-9 teaspoonful daily, in divided doses; 30 months-12 years: 4-6 teaspoonful daily, in divided doses; 25-30 months: 3-4 teaspoonful daily, in divided doses.
Drug interaction
The interactions described below are related to the presence of promethazine.
Inadvisable Combinations: Alcohol: Alcohol enhances the sedative effect of antihistamines. Impaired alertness can make driving or operating machinery dangerous. The consumption of alcoholic beverages and alcohol-containing medicinal products is to be avoided.
Sultopride: Increased risk of ventricular rhythm disorders, particularly Torsade de pointes, by addition of electrophysiological effects.
Combinations to be Taken Into Account: Other Central Nervous System Depressants: (Sedative antidepressants, barbiturates, clonidine and related substances, hypnotics, morphine derivatives [analgesics and antitussives], methadone, neuroleptics, anxiolytics): Enhancement of central depression. Impaired alertness can make driving or operating machinery dangerous.
Atropine and Other Atropine Substances: (Imipramine antidepressants, anticholinergic antiparkinsonians, atropine antispasmodics, disopyramide, phenothiazine neuroleptics); addition of adverse atropine effects such as urinary retention, constipation, dry mouth.
