Itraconazole
Indication
Sporanox is an azole antifungal medicine which used used to treat three types of serious fungal infection: blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, and aspergillosis. Sporanox works by killing sensitive fungi by interfering with the formation of the fungal cell membrane. This medication is also prescribed for onychomycosis, which infects the toenails and fingernails.
Instruction
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after a full meal. Refrain from eating for at least 1 hour after intake.
Drug interaction
Rifampicin, rifabutin & phenytoin reduce oral bioavailability of itraconazole. Ritonavir, indinavir, erythromycin & clarithromycin increase the oral bioavailability of itraconazole. Terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, midazolam, triazolam, quinidine, pimozide, simvastatin, lovastatin, mizolastine, dofetilide should not be administered concurrently. Oral anticoagulants, saquinavir, vinca alkaloids, busuphan, docetaxel, trimetrexate, dihydropyridines, verapamil, cyclosorine, tacrolimus, sirolimus, digoxin, carbamazepine, buspirone, alfentanil, alprazolam, methylprednisolone , ebastine, reboxetine.
