Theophylline
Indication
Asthma & reversible bronchospasm associated w/ chronic bronchitis & emphysema.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Swallowwhole, do not chew/crush. Tab may be cut into half.
Drug interaction
Decreased clearance w/ cimetidine, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, troleandomycin, estrogen, allopurinol, propranolol. Increased clearance by phenytoin, phenobarb & rifampicin. Lithium, β2-sympathomimetics, steroids, diuretics, ketamine.
