Sultamicillin: Sulbactam Na, ampicillin Na
Indication
Upper resp tract infections eg, sinusitis, otitis media & tonsillitis; lower resp tract infections eg, bacterial pneumonias & bronchitis, UTI & pyelonephritis; skin & soft tissue infections & gonococcal infections. Oral follow-up therapy to Unasyn IM/IV.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food.
Drug interaction
Increased incidence of rash w/ allopurinol. Additive effects of platelet aggregation & coagulation tests w/ anticoagulants. Bacteriostatic drugs may interfere w/ bactericidal effect of penicillins. Reduced effectiveness of OCs. Decreased clearance of methotrexate. Decreased renal tubular secretion by probenecid.
