Cefuroxime axetil
Indication
Upper & lower resp tract infections, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections, gonorrhoea, acute uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis & cervicitis.
Instruction
Childn 3 mth-12 yr Most infections 10 mg/kg bd. Max: 250 mg daily. Otitis media or more severe infections 15 mg/kg bd. Max: 500 mg daily.
Drug interaction
Lowered bioavailability w/ drugs known to reduce gastric acidity. Lowered oestrogen reabsorption & reduced efficacy of combined OCs. False -ve result in ferricyanide test.
