RM45.9M from Special Plates sale in 2024 Goes to B40 Aid

The government earned RM45.9 million from selling special number plates in 2024, including the ‘GOLD’, ‘FFF’, ‘EV’, ‘PETRA’, and ‘MADANI’ series. This was revealed in response to a question from Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin, who asked about the total earnings and how the money was spent, as reported by Malay Mail.

The funds were added to the government’s main account, with half of it given to the transport ministry to help lower-income groups (B40). Some of this money was used for the MyLesen programme, which helps B40 individuals and young people get motorcycle (B2, below 250cc), e-hailing (PSV), and lorry (GDL) licences.

Other uses include providing free helmets for adults and children, supporting the FLYsiswa programme, which offers flight ticket discounts for students traveling between Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, and helping taxi, rental car, and school bus drivers by covering part of their Socso insurance.

The funds from the ‘GOLD’ plate series were also used to help drivers pay for their Socso protection, ensuring they are covered under the Self-Employment Social Security Act 2017.
