Joint Petition

Married couples in Malaysia who mutually agree to part ways amicably and can reach an agreement on child custody, alimony, and marital asset division, can proceed with a mutual consent divorce by filing a Joint Petition to the court.

To begin the divorce process in Malaysia, the following documents are needed:

  1. Applicant's IC/ passport

  2. Marriage certificate

  3. The child’s birth certificate

  4. A deposit for legal fees


In divorce cases involving asset distribution in Malaysia, additional specific documents are required:

  1. For properties: The Sale and Purchase Agreement or the property’s title deed

  2. For vehicles: The vehicle registration card from JPJ

  3. Or other proofs of assets


If any required documents are missing, assistance can be obtained from Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN), Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ), or from lawyers.
